PRESS RELEASE

The Hughesville Business and Civic Alliance (HBCA) is a non-profit organization created to facilitate and help manage the revitalization of Hughesville.  It will become a mechanism to bring capital, new business, and employment opportunities to main street Hughesville, consistent with the vision contained in the Hughesville Village Revitalization Plan.  As the name implies, our organization's board will be comprised of both business and civic leaders with a stake in Hughesville.  We are dedicated to creating the local public-private partnerships and tapping into state, federal and other funding streams necessary to make the revitalization of Hughesville more than just a slogan.

Pauleen Brewer, a member of the Hughesville Revitalization Advisory Committee (HRAC), as well as, a Hughesville resident and business owner, will be the organization's president.  According to Brewer, "When I applied to become a member of the HRAC, I made a personal commitment to not only work to create the vision, but, to see it through to implementation.  To simply say the revitalization plan is supported by the community is an understatement.  Hughesville's revitalization plan is significant because, throughout the entire process of developing the plan, there was continual input from the community.  Hughesville residents not only support the plan, they have embraced it and are actively pursuing it.  They are devoted to making the vision a reality and I believe the HBCA will provide a strong voice and the start of the momentum needed to achieve the revitalization of Hughesville's main street."

Ray Mertz, the developer of Hughesville Station, was instrumental in forming the relationship between the Hughesville businesses and residents.  He will serve as the alliance's vice president.

Other prominent members of the HBCA will be SMECO spokesman, Tom Dennison, Don Smolinski, owner of All American Harley-Davidson and the Hughesville Bargain Barns, and Donna Cave, Chair of Preserve Hughesville.

Per board member,  Don Smolinski, "I am excited to join the Board of Directors of HBCA. A formal organization led by local citizens and business owners that have a shared vision for Hughesville's future, will go a long way in streamlining the process for revitalization. HBCA will be a collective voice to let business prospects know exactly what the entire community is working towards."

Jo Ellen Trossbach, a Hughesville business owner, resident, and among the first to accept a position as a board member of the HBCA, says, "I think this is going to be a unique opportunity for all of the citizens of Hughesville.  The mission will be challenging, but, also, exciting to see all the hard work and ideas come to fruition."

Sharon Moore, a life-long Hughesville resident, former HRAC member, and a member of the newly, created HBCA board, feels exhilarated by the opportunities the alliance will bring.  "The formation of the HBCA gives me hope that the vision of a revitalized main street will be realized in the much more, immediate future."

"I've lived in Hughesville over 40 years, and my husband is a native", says Joan Herbert.  "We've seen Hughesville at its best and now at its worst.  We need a jump start and I feel the HBCA is just what Hughesville needs."
